Residential: Kitchen
The clients asked for a tree to grace the walls of their bathroom. Rather than containing it within one wall, Michael Lee placed the base of the tree behind the shower, and designed the trunk and branches to extend overhead, out of site. In this way, other branches could be painted on other walls, giving the impression that the tree encompassed the entire room.
The walls of a plain white bathroom give way to a quiet glade in a woodland grove. Steam from the shower rises to fill the expanse; distant trees are barely visible in the mist.
The tree limbs work their way around the light fixtures and cabinetry of the room, gathering the whole space into their arms.
Small details like this cocoon, nestled under a branch in the wood, give a sense of wonder and story to even the simplest scene. Michael Lee is never content to paint just what is required of him - the images he weaves are connected to larger tales.
A ladybug makes his journey along one of the branches.
